Alhaji Mikail Adegoke Mumuni (FILCS) is a seasoned Nigerian Journalist, Corporate Communications Specialist and Historian with nearly four decades of experience.

He was born on February 16, 1962, in Abeokuta, Ogun State, Nigeria.

His early education began at Saint John’s Anglican Primary School in Kuto, Abeokuta, followed by secondary education at Eko Boys’ High School in Lagos.

He pursued higher education at the University of Ife, now known as Obafemi Awolowo University, graduating in 1986 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in History.

This academic foundation in history has evidently influenced his journalistic approach, often infusing historical context into contemporary reporting.

Journalism Career – A Legacy of Reporting:

Mumuni’s journalism career is extensive, having contributed to several prominent Nigerian publications. His portfolio includes work with The Democrat, TELL Magazine, The Punch, The Sun, Newswatch, The Westerner, and Nigerian Compass, among others.

His roles have encompassed traditional reporting and investigative journalism, particularly notable during his tenure at TELL Magazine, known for its bold coverage during Nigeria’s military era.

He also covered high-level government affairs, including as a State House Correspondent for The Democrat during President Ibrahim Babangida’s regime, showcasing his dedication to reporting on crucial political developments.

His transition to online journalism is evident through his roles as Managing Editor of The State Online and ultimately as the publisher of The Shield Online.

This shift highlights his adaptability to evolving media consumption habits, ensuring relevance in the digital age. His work has covered a wide range of topics, from politics and governance to social issues, often reflecting a historian’s perspective on contemporary events.

Corporate Communications and Leadership Roles Beyond journalism:

Mumuni has held significant corporate communications roles. He served as the former Group Corporate Affairs Manager at Resort International Limited, the parent company of Bi-Courtney Aviation Services Ltd., which operates Murtala Mohammed Airport Terminal 2 (MMA2) in Lagos.

His corporate involvement extends to serving on the National Media Committee of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) for the 2022, 2023, 2024, and 2025 pilgrimages, managing media coverage for these large-scale events. Additionally, since 2021, he has been part of the UTME High-Power Opinion Leaders (HPOL) Monitoring Team of JAMB, contributing to education-related media narratives.

His appointment to the APC 2023 Presidential Campaign Council (Media and Publicity Directorate) further underscores his influence in political journalism and media strategy.

Professional Affiliations and Recognition:

Mumuni’s professional standing is reinforced by his affiliations with several esteemed bodies. He is a Fellow and co-founder of the Institute of Leadership Coaching and Strategy (ILCS), a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Leadership and Governance (CILG), and a member of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) and the Guild of Corporate Online Publishers (GOCOP).

These affiliations reflect his leadership and commitment to professional development within the journalism community.

International Exposure and Training:

His international exposure is significant, with journalism assignments in West Africa, France, Spain, Germany, Switzerland, Japan, and the United States.

This global experience has enriched his reporting, providing a broader worldview that he brings back to his Nigerian audience.

His participation in the U.S. Department of State’s International Visitors Programme further enhances his international credibility.

Mumuni has also invested in professional development, undergoing training in Entrepreneurial Journalism (RUDN/Olabisi Onabanjo University);  Investigative journalism (U.S. Department of State’s International Visitors Program);  Human Rights And Social Issues Reporting (BBC World Service/European Commission), and Reporting Democratic Institutions (Independent Journalism Centre and Friedrich Ebert Foundation).

These programs underscore his commitment to staying updated on best practices and enhancing his skills.

Current Roles and Public Affairs Commentary:

Currently, Mumuni is the publisher of The Shield Online and the Managing Director of Miners Communications Limited, roles that continue to shape his influence in the media landscape. He has also served as a media adviser to Dr. Wale Babalakin, SAN, indicating his involvement in notable corporate and political media roles.

As a public affairs analyst, his writings appear in various publications, often drawing on his historical knowledge to contextualize current events.
